Worship Leader

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

To lead the people of God at First Baptist Church, Mableton, GA, to worship the Lord and to bring people to a personal encounter with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. This position is

responsible for developing and expanding the Worship Ministry of First Baptist Church Mableton (FBCM) to provide a platform of ministry to the Worship Team and to lead others in authentic worship experiences.

FBCM has a contemporary/modern approach to worship, utilizing a praise team, praise band, and worship choir. We appreciate modern expressions of worship but also have a heart for classic expressions of traditional hymns and praise songs.

Expectations:

Be led by the philosophy that worship is more than performing music. It is a lifestyle. Worship happens beyond what transpires on a stage but in the relationships, ministry and the discipling that takes place behind the scenes.

General Qualifications:

• Have a proficiency in leading worship “vocally” along with a “lead instrument” (guitar and/or keyboard), possessing a strong, pastoral presence on stage along with effective public speaking/teaching skills.

• Have a working knowledge of instruments comprising a modern praise team, being able to arrange/compose for each, and possessing the ability to teach basic playing skills of those instruments to praise team volunteers. Supervise the tuning, maintenance, repair and procurement of all church music instruments, collaborating with the Media Minister in areas relating to sound/media equipment.

• Have  a high-level of proficiency utilizing the software programs, such as  Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, ProPresenter, MultiTracks and Planning  Center Online.

• Have  a high-level of proficiency in the Audio/Visual hardware and components  to maintain, repair or assist in the installation of new equipment, as  necessary.

• Have  a commitment to a “team approach” to ministry, holding to a “relational  style” of leadership and ministry, understanding a healthy church  cannot exist with a “lone ranger” mentality in its staff.

Responsibilities:

As a part-time position, FBCM recognizes that the candidate may have other work or

responsibilities he/she may be committed to. FBCM commits to working with the candidate's

schedule, but requests that the position recognizes that Wednesday nights are reserved for praise team/band/choir rehearsals. Although, hours in the office may or may not be possible, it is requested that the Worship Leader meets regularly and works with the Senior Pastor in the

planning of the regular weekly Worship services and any special Worship services planned. It is expected that time be spent developing the talents of those volunteering their time to serve in the Worship Ministry. All in all, the overall expectation is that 12-15 hours a week, including Wednesday’s and Sunday’s, be committed to fulfilling the needs of the position.

The following points help summarize what that may look like:

• Actively participate in regular worship planning with the Senior Pastor to create engaging, well-planned worship experiences. Recap, dissect and discuss solutions to ensure an ebb and flow within all worship gatherings utilizing God-given imagination and creativity.

• Be approachable, malleable, and teachable.

• Provide leadership, vision and passion within the area of worship that is in line with the overall vision and mission of FBCM. Participate in the overall planning and implementation of church programs/events that will fulfill the mission and vision of the church, recognizing you are joining a church family not just being hired to provide a service.

• Demonstrate excellent communication skills (in both spoken and written formats).

• Pastor, mentor, care, develop, build a pastoral relationship with those in the worship ministry. (Ministry is an investment. Investing is a key component to the success and health of the church.) Recruit, train, coordinate and schedule worship team volunteers who will be responsible for leading in authentic worship experiences. Develop a worship team growth strategy that includes new and current volunteers. Provide ongoing training for all FBCM music ministry participants.

• Direct the Celebration Choir in rehearsals and presentations, keeping an organized library of all repertoire, planning for weekly specials at all worship gatherings, as well as seasonal (Easter & Christmas) events.
